What AI Share of Voice measures

When a customer asks AI for a recommendation, it names a few businesses. AI Share of Voice is how often one of them is you. It is the headline number SearchDaddy reports for each engine, because being on that short list is the result that matters to a buyer.

How it is calculated

Start with the questions your customers ask, phrased the way they would ask them, from your market. Each question goes to every engine you track, every week. Every plan includes ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Larger plans add Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Grok, up to all six.

Each answer is read to see who is named. Your AI Share of Voice is your mentions divided by your mentions plus your competitors' mentions, worked out per engine and tracked over time. Every mention counts the same in the number. How you were named is a separate question: each saved answer records whether you were named, where you appeared and whether it linked to your site, so you can read it on the Citation Ladder.

Why per engine and over time

Each engine leans on its own sources. A competitor can lead on one engine and be missing from another, so a single blended figure would hide where you are winning and where you are not. Tracking weekly turns a one-off answer into a trend, so when you ship a fix you can see whether the questions it touches move.

What to do with it

The number is a starting point, not the end. Every point on the chart opens to the saved answers and the sources behind them, so you can see who AI named instead and why. From there, the work is answer engine optimization: closing the gaps that kept you out of the answer.
